Who Painted This Guy?

People are either terrified of bugs - especially black bugs - or are fascinated with them. Which are you? I’m both. For the most part, I am squeamish around bugs. I have to admit that some of those critters are fascinating beyond belief. What was Mother Nature thinking?

For instance, there are some insects that are magnificently colored in such vibrant colors. Many beetles are so exquisitely designed, especially under sunlight, that it’s hard to stop looking at them. African beetles are in this category. They look as if they are hand painted, just like fine china. I would even give a go at painting beetle pictures if I could find a paint-by-number paint kit. I’ve included two photos of interesting beetles with this post and I know there are many more that are even more colorful.

The variety of colors and patterns on bugs is what makes them so mysterious. The colors and body shapes of bugs are what evoke different emotions from people. Take the lady bug. Their body shape is harmless looking. The gentle black spots on their tiny bodies look harmless. Overall, they are pleasant looking bugs who conjure up only warm and delightful emotions. I happen to adore them and love it when they want to tippy-toe around on my hands.

What a cutie.

A Really Bad Joke
A Really Bad Joke

Stink bugs or shield bugs get me so upset I can hardly stand it.  I have no idea why they seem to draw out from me such a fiercely hateful reaction to them but they do (and there’s one crawling around in my office right now).  Stink bugs are definitely a bad joke.

The best, my favorite, are butterflies. I have been to indoor butterfly exhibits and I actually feel the positive energy they emit. To me, they are at the top of the list of examples of Mother Nature at Her Best. Every butterfly is art.

Which bugs do you think are art or a bad joke?
